Is your "for you page" inspiring or harming your well-being? | My experience with filtering the content I consume as a plus size, fine art boudoir photographer in Richmond, Virginia

The content you consume MATTERS!

SAY IT AGAIN! THE CONTENT YOU CONSUME MATTERS!

When I hated my body most, my feed was taken up by all of the fitness, model, and body inspiration pages I looked at daily. After a while, it didn’t inspire me. It did the opposite. It reminded me that I should not be at peace with my body until I achieved the goal of looking like them. Instead of focusing on living life in the most authentic way to me, I focused on going to the gym for hours, calorie counting and pretending that what I was doing was the best for me. I was obsessed and unhappy.

It took me unfollowing all of the accounts that did not align with how I wanted to feel inspired, for me to move forward. I began following people who had bodies just like mine, who instead of obsessing over weight loss, were taking pride in their bodies. Consuming this content has reminded me that I don’t need to change my body to love it. I don’t have to be thin to have a wardrobe that excites me. I don’t have to wait for a “cheat day” to nourish my soul. I don’t have to put life on hold because the body I occupy is big… and beautiful!

If the content you view makes you feel bad about yourself, change it. Is forcing yourself to be motivated by something or someone that makes you unhappy with yourself truly the way to get inspired?!

I think not!
